Sao Paulo's Ceu has long stood at the crossroads of Brazilian tradition and global experimentation and Vagarosa remains her defining statement. First released in 2009, it folds samba, dub, psychedelia and soul into something humid and weightless, conjuring a sound both rooted and celestial. 'Sobre o Amor e Seu Trabalho Silencioso' sets the tone with dusty cavaquinho and vinyl hiss while 'Cangote' stretches out in slow motion, basslines rippling under organ haze. Her take on Jorge Ben's 'Rosa Menina Rosa' feels like a mirage with all reverb and soft distortion before 'Espaconave' drifts the album into cosmic quiet. Some 15 years on, its glow hasn't dimmed.
