Da lata - Edge Blue
Da lata - Edge Blue
We hear tropicalia in full regalia, as North London collective Da Lata poke close to the Edge Of Blue, their first full-length in a decade and a hammock-recumbent yet effortlessly chic manifesto in sound. Founders Chris Franck and Patrick Forge pull on decades of global connections, with Franck's resume capping collabs from Tony Allen to Marisa Monte and George Clinton. Across ten tracks we hear Brazilian, jazz and deep club pulsions, joined by singers from three continents: Sukirti Uikey on 'First Rays' and 'Listen', Lenna Bahule on 'Tsinguipa', Luizga on 'Cabera', Bembe Segue on 'Arena', Adriana Vasques on 'Musa', and Bruna Lucchesi on 'Boca Seca'. The mood is warmly percussive, with a loose extempore feel, reflecting decades of skin in the game.
