Dj Tahira - Tapioca Brasil Diverso
Brazilian music has shaped the rest of the world for so long that its modern forms are often assumed rather than heard, which is precisely why this collection curated by Florianopolis DJ Tahira feels so striking. Instead of echoing the 60s-and-70s imaginary that still clings to the country's exports, these tracks sketch a Brazil working at full tilt, folding tradition into restless new shapes. It's a vivid, many-coloured sprawl. The compilation sparks to life with Josiel Konrad's 'Boca N 0 (Funk Carioca)', its syncopated thump cutting straight through the haze, before Ramiro Galas's 'Bossa Laser' glides in on soft synths and a bossa lilt. Space Charanga's 'Conta' and Marcus Simon's 'Mutum' stretch the palette further, drifting toward layered percussion and modal jazz phrasing. By the close, 'Samba Da Dona Odete' and 'Terreiro Sem Cerca' place earthy hand rhythms at the centre again, reminding you that futurism and root-music grit can sit comfortably in the same breath.
