Laíz & The New Love Experience - Ela Partiu
Laíz & The New Love Experience - Ela Partiu
Ela Partiu, the breakout record from 24-year-old Brazilian rapper Laiz (Agogo Records), fuses golden-era hip hop with tropicália, magical realism, and global collaborations. Featuring Sudanese trap artist Zeyo Mann, Ghanaian percussionist Eric Owusu, and production by young.vishnu & Pachakuti (The New Love Experience), the album reflects Laiz’s journey from São Paulo to the US and Germany, exploring themes of emigration, diaspora, and identity.
Recorded in Hildesheim with an international cast from Cuba to Madagascar, the sessions became a creative hub where music, culture, and politics collided. The title nods to Tim Maia’s classic, while also marking Laiz’s decision to leave her strict Jehovah’s Witness upbringing behind. Drawing inspiration from Marcelo D2 and Tom Zé, she bridges Brazilian traditions with Europe’s underground, citing Little Simz and Sampa The Great as peers.
Across 14 tracks released biweekly, Ela Partiu shifts from samba swagger (“Carcará”) to baile funk energy (“Jongo”) and soulful funk grooves (“Tipo Assim”), weaving playful rhythms with sharp social critique. More than a Brazilian record, it’s a vibrant global hip hop statement from an artist still shaping her path.
