Clandestino (1998) is the debut solo album by Manu Chao, after leaving his previous band Mano Negra. The album became a global sensation, mixing Latin, reggae, rock, and world music influences with socially conscious lyrics. Its lo-fi production, eclectic style, and use of multiple languages—Spanish, French, and English—helped create a unique sound that resonated worldwide.
Notable tracks include "Clandestino", "Desaparecido", and "Bongo Bong". These songs reflect themes of immigration, resistance, and social injustice, with a raw, street-level perspective.
